He has been recognized for his work, receiving the 2nd Shiseido Art Egg Award, and has also served as a research fellow in the UK through the Agency for Cultural Affairs (2009\u20132011). Makihara\u2019s installations approach specific objects and places, starting with the creation of secondary forms such as restoration, repair, and the differences that occur before and after these processes.
